Mrs. Martin (Johanna) E. Cherney, 89, a local resident, passed away Saturday, March 11, 1995 at a local hospital. She was born to the late Henry and Susan (Grovogel) Haen on July 18, 1905 in Luxemburg, Wis.
Johanna married Martin Cherney on Sept. 14, 1927, at St. Mary's Church in Luxemburg. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1991. She and her husband owned a dairy farm until 1965. Johanna was a teacher at SS. Cyril and Methodius School for more than 20 years. She was a past member of various church organizations.
Johanna was an avid gardener and card player. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter Diane Cherney, Green Bay; grandson, Jesse Cherney, Houghton, Mich.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, August and Elsie Haen, Mishicot; and Clarence and Lillian Haen, Sturgeon Bay; one brother-in-law, Bill Cherney; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Klarkowski, Lillian Klarkowski and Elsie Orphal.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five sisters, Ruth Dexheimer, Marie Salentine, Clara Rickl, and twins Irene and Lorene Haen; and six brothers, Edward, William, Henry, Clayton, Charlie and Raymond.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Cyril and Methodius until time of funeral. Parish wake service 7:30 p.m. Monday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Dean Dombroski officiating. Entombment to follow at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
