Son of Walter C. and Nancy (Williams) Lake. He was married at Belleville, Ohio, in December, 1851 to Miss D. A. Poppleton, by whom he had one son, George F. His first wife died in 1854 and he was married again at Birmingham, Michigan (June 1856) to Miss Zade J. Poppleton, sister of Andrew J. Poppleton, and a cousin of his first wife. They were the parents of Carrie Jane, wife of Joy Morton, the son of J. Sterling Morton. His 2nd wife died in 1860, and he was married a third time (1861) to Abby Hays, a native of Chicago, with whom he had two children, Mary, the wife of Charles L. Deuel, and Dr. Frederick W. Lake.
