River
So many reasons, so many questions, not a single answer on why,
you were there always true and noble, but now we're all left to watch you lie.
Your life was a journey that flowed like a river, an endless path of twists and bends,
filled with a fullness of accomplishment, filled with the care you gave your family and friends.
On the journey you became a hero, and the river is red from all that was done,
brave and true you answered a call when you were needed,
you did your part to make sure our freedom was won.
Twice you protected what may take for granted, and made this world a safer place,
your river kept flowing on the path you'd chosen, no matter the trouble or danger you'd face.
You chose to fight for those of a nation, and make a future a guarantee,
you fought for what's right, to help protect strangers, but most importantly to defend your family.
But your river flowed on past these moments, and made memories to follow the tide,
now there was a family to bring along, to raise and care for down this river wide.
Soon came seven for you to cherish forever, to hold dear to your soul and your heart,
but care from you went to all the family, love from you covered every part.
You were the husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend,
the man with a heart as large as one could find,
the person who'd give all to help out, and with that all his love would bind.
So many lives were touched by your heart, so many people helped by you,
stranger or family, you saw no difference, and to help you would do whatever you needed to do.
But now it's our turn to take the love we got, and pass it on to family and friends,
your river still flows, strong and forever, for in our hearts your river never ends.
