Patton, born April 14, 1991 in Kentucky, was a bay son of impactful sire Lord At War and the Seattle Slew mare Slew Me Down. Taking a cue from his sire's name, Patton was named after General George S. Patton.

Trained by Sonny Hine, Patton won the Grade II Gulfstream Park Sprint and the William Thompson Stakes, and also placed in three other stakes. He retired with a record of 18: 6-3-3 and earnings of $237,460.

Patton retired to stud in 1997, standing first at Airdrie Stud in Kentucky, and later Reigle Heir Farm in Pennsylvania, Castle Rock Farm in Pennsylvania, and finally Crescent Farm in Illinois. Patton was pensioned from breeding in 2011 and retired to Old Friends Equine Retirement Facility, where he spent the rest of his life. At Old Friends, Patton was regarded for his kind disposition and was a favorite among visitors and staff. Patton was euthanized January 5, 2014 after a score of medical issues greatly hindered his quality of life. The stallion was 23 years old.

As a stallion, Patton is best remembered as the sire of Kelly's Landing, who won the Grade I Dubai Golden Shaheen in 2007 as well as many other graded stakes races. Patton is also the sire of graded stakes winner Yessirgeneralsir and the damsire of multiple stakes winner Shanon Nicole.
