Born April 22, 1931 to Alvornia John Thompson and Olive W. Wooley in Salt Lake City.
Died May 19, 2019 at age 88 at McKay Dee Hospital of complications of a short illness.
Alvornia was a fun loving, spunky, outgoing person. She had a wonderful childhood and had fond memories of growing up during the depression and learning hard work. She loved attending Altamont High School where she met her true love Frederick Grant Thacker. She told everyone she married a real cowboy. Fred and Alvornia got married on September 14, 1951 in Ogden. They were sealed in the Ogden Temple on June 18, 1986.
She got a job at the Naval Base in Ogden and eventually transferred to Hill Air Force Base. She worked her way through teletype and eventually was a supervisor to all military airmen. She was proud to be a part of the 1881st Communications Squadron, retiring with 37 years of service. She still has some of the men and women who worked with her contact her.
After 8 years of marriage they started their family, first was Grant, then 3 girls, Adele, Wanda, and Deanna. They purchased farm ground and had a wonderful life with their 40 acres. She said she didn’t know anything about farming because she was a “city” girl. Working together was part of the plan.
She loved to travel with friends and family and went on a number of cruises. She was always up for going to the Shakespeare Festival, Tuacan and she especially loved Hawaii. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. All of her children were taught to keep a clean house and how to cook healthy delicious food. Her Thanksgiving rolls were fabulous.
She loved her rose bushes and keeping her yard beautiful….but inside plants didn’t stand a chance.
Halloween was a special time, she loved to dress up and each year surprise the family with the costume she chose, Gramma Gaga was a hit, along with Cruella DeVille and many others.
She loved to attend all the events the family participated in, Choir, Sports, Band, Plays, Dance recitals and graduations. She was always there to cheer her family on.
She welcomed new members of her family with great happiness and open arms. She also welcomed anyone who needed a family to become a member of ours.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many callings. She loved her father in Heaven and had an amazing testimony. She loved genealogy work and enjoyed talking about her family roots. She was proud when she got to have a grandchild serve as a missionary, her grandchildren served in Mexico, two in California, Argentina, Sweden, North Carolina.
She welcomed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with joy and love. Robyn (James), was first and then followed Dwight (Ashley), Darwin (Jennifer), Ellen (Chelsea). Amber (Josh), Marchelle,Cameron, Nykell (Garrett) and Rylee (Dylan). Mitchell (Rachel), Camille (Mark), and Kyle. Drew (Kylee), Kelley and Amanda. She tenderly taught, loved and nurtured all of them. They all have special memories that will burn bright.
Then came the great-grandchildren. Kian, Delaney, Miryam, Jeremiah, Everett, Truman, Alice, Jade, Jevin, Emery and Wyatt Quincie, Jovie, Zoe, Ike Jensyn, Hurley, Violet, Daphne and one more expected. These children were all loved immensely and she looked forward to seeing them and hugging them.
She is survived by her son Grant (Debbie) Thacker, Olive Adele Parker (Alan), Wanda Parker (Dan), Deanna Hill (Mike); brother, Myln (Jill) Thompson; and sister, Ellie Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Herbert and Duane, and one sister Maralyn.
Her husband Fred, and one great-granddaughter Zoe.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 2 pm at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 6-8 pm and Friday from 12:30-1:30 pm at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park.
