The Funeral of Captain John Jones, for many years captain and first mate of freight steamers between Baltimore, Washington, Norfolk and other points, and at his death first mate of the Norfolk freight steamer Transit, took place yesterday afternoon from his residence, No. 302 North Ann street to Baltimore Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Mark R. Watkinson. Captain Jones was taken with typhoid pneumonia on his first trip on the Transit two weeks ago, and died Thursday morning, in the 55th year of his age. For a time he was first mate on the steamer Columbia, of which the commander, Captain Jacob Kirwan, died Thursday. Captain Jones leaves a wife and two daughters, and has four brothers three of whom, Lemuel, Ezekiel and Thompson T., have been captains of bay vessels.
