Nanny had four sons, Henry, Thomas, Hugh, and Robert Norris, before marrying their father, John Cottam. Robert died at age 4 years, but the older three boys continued to use the Norris surname even after their parents finally married. After marrying John Cottam on 8 May 1825, they went on to have three legitimate children, Ellen (1), Richard, and Ellen (2). The first Ellen only lived 15 months. They also had a stillborn child in January 1831.
John Cottam died in Croston and was buried in the churchyard on 18 Oct 1834, aged 45 years. Almost exactly a year later, Nanny married James Dobson, a widower with grown children. They were married in Croston Parish Church on 21 Oct 1835. They had no children together.
