JAMES H. HAUPT

(1936 • 2007)

James Henry Haupt, age 71, of Manitowoc, formerly of Two Rivers, left this world peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, with his family by his side at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

Jim was born on June 1, 1936, in the township of Newton to the late Erhardt and Erna (Pleuss) Haupt. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1954. After high school, Jim served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany from 1956 to 1958. He was a former member of the 377th Ordinance Company in the Reserve Unit.

Jim worked at the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry for 43 years, before retiring in 1998. While employed, he served some time as president of the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry Employee Credit Union. After his retirement, Jim drove school bus for the Mishicot School District and worked for the M & M Lunch, where he enjoyed many catering jobs, including the Point Beach Nuclear Plant. Jim was a lifelong sportsman, and loved to hunt and fish. He was a former member of the Maribel Sportsman's Club, Viking Bow and Gun Club and the Manitowoc Gun Club, where he was involved in the building of the new club in Clover. During his life, he enjoyed participating in numerous trap shooting and archery leagues. He was a former member of the Northeast Wisconsin Great Lakes Sport Fishing and Ducks Unlimited Inc. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, Jim played on a number of fast-pitch and slow-pitch baseball teams, including the Manitowoc County Baseball Leagues. His 40 years of play gave him an opportunity to fulfill the dream of playing the sport he loved with his son. He was an avid Packer, Brewer and Badger fan, but some of his greatest joy came from being in the stands watching his eight grandsons play. Some have said Jim was able to dance before he could walk, and that love for music and dance continued throughout his life. He shared that love with others as a country dance instructor of many years.

Jim is survived by his three children: Cheri (Barry) Sweeney of Appleton; Jayme (Danielle) Haupt of Plymouth; and Crystal (Bart) Barrington of Hortonville; eight grandsons: Evan Sweeney at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point; Brett and Troy Sweeney of Appleton; Jonathan and Cory Haupt of Plymouth; and Reed, Wade and Cole Barrington of Hortonville; one brother and a sister: Elroy Haupt; and Ramona Madson, both of Manitowoc; two sisters-in-law: Salome Haupt and Bette Haupt, also of Manitowoc. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Robert and Frederick Haupt; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Hilda Haupt; and James Madson; nephew: Mark Haupt; and his dear friend and fishing companion: Ed Behrmann.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev's. Stephen Melso and Robert Kujawski, pastors of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Newtonburg, at a later date.

A time of gathering and remembrance will take place at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Jim can be sent to the Cancer Care Center or Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jim's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of the wonderful staff on five East at Holy Family Memorial and all of those in the Cancer Care Center who cared for dad during his illness. Finally, a very special thank you to Dr. Lynn Baatz, who not only touched dad's life in a special way, but ours as well, in the last days and hours of his life. You are truly one of God's earthly angels.
