ARNO HACKMANN

(1918 • 2010)


Arno H. Hackmann, 92, formerly of 1722 S. Alverno Road, Manitowoc, died on February 21, 2010 at Harbor House in Green Bay where he had lived since December, 2008. The funeral was on Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg. Officiating was the Rev. Victor Headrick with burial at St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery.


Arno was born on January 2, 1918 in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late Emil and Mary Liermann Hackmann. He operated the home farm in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids his entire lifetime, retiring in 1981. On January 2, 1960 he married Lucile Bremer at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2007. Arno was a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. In past years he had served on the St. John's Lutheran School Board.


He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Harvey and Barbara Day of Green Bay, Roger Day of Orange Park, Fla., and John and Lisa Hackmann of Manitowoc; three daughters and one son-in-law, Marian and Sidney Leick of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sharon Hackmann of Manitowod and Nancy Matznick of Valders; and one step daughter, Diantha Langhoff of Oak Creek. He is further survived by one brother, Kermit Hackmann of Manitowoc Rapids; one brother-in-law, Elroy Stauss of Newton; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Mary Hackmann, his wife of 47 years, Lucile; one daughter, Judith Connors in 2002; one brother, Rueben, one sister, Vernetta Stauss, two grandsons, Timothy Day in 2001 and Thomas Connors in 2009.


Memorials would be appreciated for St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc Lutheran High School or the donor's choice.


The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory in Manitowoc assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
