Abraham Abelovitz lived in Baltimore, Maryland, when the United States declared war on Japan just one day after the attack on Pearl Harbor that killed 2,400 Americans.
He was a former co-owner along with his sister-in-law Mary Sibble of Northwood Liquors on Havenwood Road in Northeast Baltimore. The store has been in business for abour 40 years. Mr. Abell retired about 1985 and became a volunteer for Jewish Family Services. He provided transportation to the elderly. In the mid 1930's he operated Abell Tire and Battery store at Park Circle. He later owned a chain of Food Fair service stations for many years in Baltimore. Born in Wilmington, N.C., he moved to Baltimore as a child in 1922 and was educated through junior high school. Mr. Abell enjoyed golf and was a member of Bonnie View Country Club.
