Evelyn was born September 14, 1917 in Good Thunder, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Hulda (Finley) Stebbins. They moved to Maxwell and Evelyn lived there until 2002 when she moved into Story County Long Term Care. She was united in marriage to Earl Alder on September 14, 1935. Earl preceded Evelyn in death in 1975. Evelyn was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and playing cards. She was a member of the Farrar United Methodist Church.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter: Mae Marie (Ken) Allen of Maxwell, Iowa; 2 grandchildren: Theresa Allen and Nicholas Allen; a great-grandson: Erik Allen; and 5 sisters: Maxine Viers of Maxwell, Iowa, Doris Canney of Maxwell, Iowa, Leona Pihl of Augusta, Wisconsin, Dorothy (Earnest) Pihl of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Opal (Jim) Geesaman of Waukee, Iowa.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter: Mary Helen Alder; 2 brothers: Finley Stebbins and Lester Bud Stebbins; and 2 sisters: Hazel Hurst and Elsie Garner.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Friday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Burial will be in the Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell.
Visitation with the family will be 6:30 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
