Served World War 2 - Japanese Army - Private 1st Class - 247th Regiment, Independent Engineers (Akatsuki) HQ Keijo 1424; (6th South Seas Expedition Force); Captured - 7th March 1943 at Pollock Harbour, New Guinea; Son of Kiyoshi FUJIWARA and Yoshino Fujiwara (Mother); FUJIWARA was transferred to Cowra on 21 May 1943. He was hospitalised for a few days in September 1943, recorded as being "sick". He died in the breakout of Gunshot Wound to Left Shoulder.

Was captured in the Buna area on 9 March 1943. FUJIWARA, a 22 year old 1st Class Private from Nagasaki, was captured, along with two other Japanese soldiers, by Australian troops in the village where they landed after the sinking of Aiyo Maru on 3 March. During the interrogation, FUJIWARA initially gave a false identity as he was worried that his name would be sent to Japan as a prisoner of war. However, he later gave a correct identity and provided information on unit organisations, evacuation operation from Guadalcanal, the sinking of his boat and his rescue from the sea.
