Josephine is spoken to and of in Peter J. Powell's book, "Sweet Medicine: The Continuing Role of the Sacred Arrows, the Sun Dance, and the Sacred Buffalo Hat in Northern Cheyenne History." Her biography from the book is as follows:

"Josephine Head Swift Limpy (Stands by the Fire), Northern Suhtai. Born 1900. Father, Head Swift, Keeper of Is'siwun. Josie Limpy guarded the Sacred Hat from 1952 until January, 1958. In July, 1969, Is'siwun again was placed in her care."
