Ida May Amadon (1856-1937) was born in Waupaca, Wisconsin in 1856 during a brief sojourn there from her parents native Vermont. Her father was John Quincy Amadon (1825-1900) and her mother was Betsy Caroline Davis (1823-1874). She married Henry F. Hoffman on January 20, 1872 when she was only fifteen. A veteran of the Civil War Hoffman suffered from severe epilepsy in his final years and died in 1881 leaving Ida with three young children viz; John H. (1873-1951), Rufus (1876-1950), and Alice M. (1879-1945). On July 10, 1882 Ida remarried to Arthur Ellsworth Roberts (1864-1939) whose parents, Solon S. Roberts (1827-1912) and Hannah E. Webber (1828-1911) are also buried in Newark Cemetery. Ida and Arthur were the parents of a further three children viz. Eluvia R. (1884-1957) [who married Homer A. Stott and moved to London, Ontario in 1904), Bessie E. (1886-1887), and A. Dennison (1888-1970). Arthur left the family in about 1896 and they moved to Island Pond. Ida may have effected something of a reconciliation with him in about 1910 but they parted again and she lived mostly on her own. She died near Burlington in the home of her son, Rufus, in 1937.
