Funeral services celebrating Bernadine's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at the Willow Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton and from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of service in the church. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery, Willow Hill, Illinois.
Bernadine was born on May 5, 1929 in rural Jasper County, Illinois the daughter of Aaron and Rosetta (Hart) Boyd. In October of 1955, Bernadine married Wesley E. Jones. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2005. Beginning work at Wood's Bakery in Oblong, Bernadine later worked for the Jasper County Schools as a cook, Edlebreck Shoe Factory and Bergbower Shelter Care. She cooked for the Jasper County Senior Center for over twenty year until in retirement. For many years, she continued cooking at the Busy Bee's Day Care.
Bernadine was a faithful member of the Willow Hill United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and Newton Chapter No. 497 Order of the Eastern Star. Her family describes her as an avid homemaker. She loved cooking, gardening, tending her flowers, caring for her three cats and ironing. Bernadine loved God, her family and her church. She spread her love with the meals she prepared, especially her fried chicken, noodles, and cream rolls.
Bernadine will be loved and remembered by her children, Bill (Cathy) Jones, Carol (Charley) Earlewine, Randy (Julie) Jones, Tammie Mayhood and Jamie (Alan) Mendenhall; seven grandchildren, Bill Jones, Jr, Nicole Jones, Jay Dee Rice, Kimberly (Clayton) Basham, Lee Mayhood, Patrick Mendenhall and Brooke (Darren) Zerrusen; great-grandchildren, Tessa Jones, Hunter and Hayden Basham and Amelia and Edison Zerrusen; brother-in-law, Cleon Culp; sisters-in-law, Judy Boyd and Norma Boyd and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents; son, Mark Wesley Jones, son-in-law, Mike Mayhood; brothers, Bob Hart, James Boyd, Otto Boyd, Eugene Boyd and Lewis Boyd; sisters, Esther Gordon, Irene Culp and Hazel Culp; nephew, Cleon Culp, Jr and niece, Twila Hoover preceded her in death.
