Joseph F. Gates, 89, of 1020 S. 12th Street, Manitowoc, died Friday morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.


Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Rev. Gerald Prusakowski O.F.M. prsiding at the Mass of Christian Burial with burial at the Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.


He was born March 19, 1901, in Two Rivers, Wis., son of the late Frank and Barbara Monka Gates. He married the former Hazel M. Bauer on October 28, 1924, at Silver Lake, Wis. Mr. Gates was a Tool and Die Maker at Mirro Aluminum Company for 50 years until his retirement. Mr. Gates was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc.


Survivors include his wife, Hazel; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alex Gates of Two Rivers, George and Bernice Gates of Two Rivers; two sisters, Cecilia Pleuss of Two Rivers, Frances Shelson of Manitowoc; three nieces, Shirley Pitroski of Manitowoc, Eunice Gaedtke of Kiel, and Jeanette Holschbach of Whitelaw; grandnieces and grandnephews, Rick Pitroski, Miacheal Pitroski, Cherly Fronz, William Pitroski, James Pitroski,Mary Jo Brixius and Susan Pitroski; other grandnieces and grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.


Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home this Sunday evening from 4-8 p.m. where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Father Jerry.
