Mathilda and sister Fredrika Wilhelmina both took the last name Bjorkman as they left their mother's home at Mark, but it is not known if Samuel Bjorkman was their biological father, who was listed as "unknown" at birth, and family lore has that Mathilda came from "hanky-panky in the palace" with a handmaiden.
While combing the National Archives in Washington, D.C., I found that Mathilda arrived in Boston in 1882 with children John, Oscar, & Hilda Maria on ship *ATLAS*.
