Mr. John Presley “J.P.” Holmes, Jr., age 87, of Mayfield passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, KY.
He was a member of Trace Creek Baptist Church and a retired employee of General Tire.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Alene Crouch Holmes; five sons, Johnny (Laura) Holmes III of South Carolina, Steve (Conita) Holmes of Mayfield, KY, Dwayne (Wendy) Holmes of Mayfield, KY, Chris (Rena) Holmes of Mayfield, KY and Robin (Tracy) Holmes of Water Valley, KY; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Holmes; one sister, Dorothy Kiesey; two half brothers, Harold and Bill Holmes; one half sister, Katherine Holmes; one great grandchild, Amiyah Watkins; and his parents, John Presley Holmes, Sr. and Clara Madding Holmes.
Funeral services for Mr. John Presley “J.P.” Holmes, Jr. will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. Robin Holmes, Chris Holmes, Dwayne Holmes, Steve Holmes and Johnny Holmes, III will officiate. Entombment will follow at Highland Park Mausoleum.
His sons will serve as pallbearers. His grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at the funeral home.
