Barbara J. Becker, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, August 12, 2019 at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.

Born May 16, 1928 in Winfield, she was the daughter of Elmer and Alta (Smith) Cranston. Barbara’s parents passed away when she was only ten years old and she was raised in Winfield by her half brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Mildred Cranston. She received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1947. Following school, she worked for a short time with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Barbara was united in marriage to Stanley “Stan” Becker on May 21, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Barbara worked as a secretary for several area businesses before beginning her career at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She began working as the maintenance secretary, eventually becoming the supply secretary, a position she held until retiring in the late 1980’s. Stan preceded her in death on March 5, 2013.

Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winfield. She enjoyed reading and traveling to the mountains in Colorado. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Her family includes her son Martin Becker and wife, Joan of Omaha, NE; her daughter Paula Becker of Topeka; her grandchildren, Matthew T. Becker and Dustin B. Becker both of Omaha, NE; and her great grandchildren, Devin Michael, Molly Nicole, and Hunter James Becker, and their mother Jennifer Becker Miller all of Omaha, NE.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Lucy Cranston and her brother Paul Cranston and his wife, Mildred.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Barbara’s name for the American Diabetes Association and for the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
