Funeral services for Phyllis Fanning will be held Saturday, December 11th, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha with Reverend Karl Schiltz officiating. Russ Davis will be accompanied by Dave Cook, pianist. Anita Hamm and Kathy Norris will take care of the flower arrangements. Honorary pallbearers include the following: Marjorie Wadsley, Elma Hatch, Merlin and Delores Mueggenberg, Howard and Betty Mentzer, and Dorothy Shellenberger. Pallbearers will be the following: Tod Geyer, Laurie Schmidt, Jim Combs, LeAnn Wadsley, Liz Davis, and Joe Wadsley. Burial will be at the Nemaha Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is Friday, December 10th, 4:00-8:00 pm, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Phyllis L. Fanning, age 90, of Nemaha, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2004, at the Park View Care Center in Sac City, Iowa.

Phyllis Lucille Wirth was born on December 3, 1914, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of J.E. and Pearl (Leeds) Wirth. Phyllis attended Cherokee schools graduating from the Cherokee High School.

On February 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Floyd E. Fanning in Cherokee. The couple then moved to their farm northwest of Nemaha.

Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. Previous to her marriage she worked at the Cherokee Mental Health Hospital and had also been a dental assistant in Cherokee. Seven years were also spent working as a nurses' aide at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa.

She loved flowers, working in her garden and driving around the farmstead on her "Harley".

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nemaha, the United Methodist Women, and the Order of the Eastern Star of which she was past matron.

Survivors include her four children, Connie and Mal Locke of Cambridge, Iowa, Norman and Shirley Fanning of Republic, Missouri. Karen Peters of Grand Junction, Colorado and Phil Fanning, of Nemaha, Iowa. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd, on April 18, 2002, and her two brothers, Raymond and Randell Wirth.
