Norman Earl Fanning, age 82, of Republic, Missouri transferred from his earthly home to his heavenly home surrounded by family on November 23, 2020. He was born on October 4, 1938 in Cherokee, Iowa. Norm met his high school sweetheart, Shirley Marie Schott in Nemaha, Iowa and raised a loving family with her. Norm was an entrepreneur at heart, often trying new business adventures while always being a gentleman farmer and an outdoor enthusiast. He loved being an auctioneer, building and selling homes, and he always made it a point to become friends with his clients and co-workers. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his ‘shop’.
Norm always took pleasure in telling stories and jokes to give people joy. He enjoyed the journey as much as the destination as demonstrated by his passion for negotiating. We would joke with him about being able to sell ice to an Eskimo. He also loved to take care of everything, whether that was the restaurant bill, churning the homemade ice cream, mowing the yard, and most importantly, taking care of his family. As his passions changed from building and selling to more ‘retirement’ activities, he appreciated spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren; enjoying working on ‘the farm’; and, watching the ocean from Gulf Shores, AL and the golfers off the balcony at Island Green.
Grieving the loss of Norm are his loving wife of 61 years Shirley; three children Kim Soderholm (and Jim Soderholm), Cinthy Fanning (and Kirt Jacobs), and Chris Fanning (and Kerri Fanning); five grandchildren: David (and Chandra), Katie (and Neil), Landon, Addison and Bingham; and, seven great grandchildren: Brayden, Bridger, Brinley, Brexton, Presley, Landrey and Kobie.
As we grieve for Norm we acknowledge that we are grieving for ourselves, for he is enjoying his new body and home with great views of Heaven built just for him by the master builder, Jesus Christ.
Shirley and family will be planning a Celebration of Norm’s Life for family and friends at ‘the farm’ in Republic, MO for his birthday in October. The details will be communicated at a later time. His earthly final resting place will be at Wade Chapel Cemetery Republic, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you remember Norm through an offering to Convoy of Hope www.convoyofhope.org, Proclaim Aviation Ministries www.proclaimaviation.org or your favorite humanitarian mission.
