Wesley B. Coenen, age 78, of 3720 E. Hillcrest Rd, Two Rivers, died on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.

Wesley was born June 11, 1934 in Two Rivers, a son of the late Benedict and Gladys (Panure) Coenen. He attended schools in Two Rivers where he was a graduate of Washington High School. He then served his country with the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On November 9, 1957, he married Winnifred (Loeser) Klabunde at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Winifred had two children, Ervin and Susan who were adopted by Wesley and together the couple had six more children. Winifred preceded Wesley in death on July 29, 2004. Wesley farmed in the Town of Two Rivers for many years. He also operated Coenen Shoe Repair in Two Rivers as a part time business for many years. Wes found great joy in helping out other people in need. He also enjoyed bowling, working outdoors, especially woodcutting and he enjoyed the time spent with his grandkids.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Erv and Katie Coenen, Two Rivers, John and Lee Rae Coenen, Manitowoc; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Gene Alaperet, Kathy and Bruce Buyeske, all of Two Rivers, Liz and Duwayne Ochs, Mary and John Zeldenrut, all of Manitowoc; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. He is further survived by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris and Donald Koch, Two Rivers, Sandra Coenen, Florida; Judy and Bill Bodwin, Two Rivers; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Francis Coenen, Sheboygan; Raymond and Elaine Coenen, Two Rivers; Dale and Gail Coenen, Michigan and Ruth Carlson, Two Rivers; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, the was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen; a son, David and two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Emmet (Ruth) Coenen, Kenneth (Jean) Coenen and Ruth Coenen.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy 310, Manitowoc. Deacon Alan Boeldt will officiate at the service with inurnment of his remains to take place in the mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum after 12 noon on Friday until the time of service at 1:00 pm.

Deja and Martin Funeral Chapel, 1506 18th St., Two Rivers, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The Coenen family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Edward Barylak and the staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic and to the staff at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care and kindness extended to our dad over the last several months.
