James was the son of John and Penelope Barnes Annis, and was christened on 7 Feb, 1819 in Suffolk, England. At the time of his birth, John and Penelope lived in Market Weston, Suffolk. James was the husband of Harriet Folks Annis, married in Suffolk and arrived in New York in July, 1854. Together they had seven children. Burial was at County Line in Somerset according to his wife's obituary which appeared on Oct 18, 1896 in the Medina (NY) Tribune.
