Joseph Michelangelo, 68 of Northford died peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of forty one years to Catherine DelBuono Michelangelo. Joe was born in Campo di Fano, Province of L’Aquila, in the Abruzzo region of Italy on January 24, 1951, a son of the late Pasquale and Maria Guglielmo Michelangelo. He came to the United States in 1964 and resided in West Haven for several years before moving to Northford forty one years ago. Joe was a machinist and lead man at the former H.B. Ives Co. of New Haven for forty years, retiring in 2014. After his retirement he continued to work in the Food & Nutrition Dept. at Yale-New Haven Hospital for another four years. Joe was a generous man, and loved his wife’s cooking. His passion was wine making, and he loved to garden, giving most of the wine he made and the vegetables that he grew to his friends. Joe was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. In addition to his wife Catherine, Joe is survived by a daughter, Maria Natasha Michelangelo of Hamden, a son, Alphonse (Toni) Michelangelo of Durham, one sister, Giovanna (Renato) Gentile, one brother, Panfilo (Raffaela) Michelangelo of East Haven, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his loving four legged companion, Rusty. Joe’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 30th from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ambrose Parish, St. Monica Church, 1331 Middletown Ave., Northford.
