John Hooper, aged 71 years, a veteran of the Civil war. died Saturday
morning at his residence in Gloversville. He is survived by two daughters, Clementine and Louisa Hooper,
both of Gloversville and one sister,
Barbara Hooper, of Watervliet.
Mr. Hooper, was a native of Germany, where he was born, February
,23, 1842. He emigrated to this country in his early days and made his residence in Albany for a number of
years before he removed to Fulton

to Gloversville, he took up the business of florist which he followed up to
six years ago, with the exception of
the years, when he fought in the Civil

His Civil war record was an enviable one. He saw much active service,

struck him in the head and neck. The
second wound proved more serious
than the first, when in the battle of Antletam he lost his left eye. He was honorably discharged May 28, '63. In the first enlistment he also saw active
service in the battles of Fredericksburg, seven-day. battle and many others of less Importance. Soon after his
honorable discharge, he re-enlisted in
the 18th cavalry for three years more and was transported to Texas where
he took part in many skirmishes. He was honorably discharged the second time at Vickeria, Tex.. May 31, 1866.
Mr. Hooper was a member of the First Baptist church. The funeral was held
at the home Thls afternoon at 2:30
o'clock and was conducted by the Rev.
