DR. NORMAN "BUZZ" C. SCHROEDER
(1936 - 2018)

Manitowoc - A precious heart stopped beating - the most wonderful man in the world.

Dr. Buzz Schroeder was born on August 30th, 1936 in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Carl and Marvelene (Norman) Schroeder. He graduated from Baraboo High School in 1954. During his high school years, he lettered in three sports to include football, basketball, and golf and achieved all-conference awards in both basketball and golf. In addition, he was the holder of the Baraboo High School golf trophy for four years, a record that stood decades beyond his graduation. He enjoyed playing quarterback for his school and was always proud that he was the first generation of three quarterbacks, followed by his son and grandson.

Buzz met the love of his life, Judith K. Schroeder (Kotthaus) when he was in elementary school. They started dating after Buzz graduated from high school. The two married on February 3rd, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Baraboo, WI. The lovebirds have been married for 62 glorious years.

He then attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1958 with a degree in microbiology. He remained at the University to continue his medical education, graduating from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1962. He spent a year in Duluth, MN for his internship, where he fell in love with obstetrics.

He returned home to the Madison area for his residency in obstetrics; however, quickly realized he missed taking care of babies and transitioned into family practice. After seeing Lake Michigan, Buzz and Judy found their forever home in Manitowoc in 1964. Buzz joined the practice at the Park Medical Center on 8th Street with the late Dr. Nathan Davis and Dr. Norman Erdmann, and later in his career worked with Dr. John Goswitz, Dr. Lynn Holder, and Dr. Richard Stein, as well as Dr. David Danby and Dr. Christopher Kordiyak. He will always have a special place in his heart for the staff at PMC, especially Mary Ann who spent so many years at his side.

Buzz quickly learned to balance the large volume of deliveries at Holy Family, Memorial Hospital, and Two Rivers Community Hospital. During these years, he fulfilled his dreams by delivering over 3,000 babies and caring for many of them into their adult lives, including several second-generation births. Dr. Buzz Schroeder retired from Park Medical Center in 1998 and then spent the next twenty years reviewing charts for Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, in order to keep in touch with the medical community and continue to enhance an institution he so passionately supported. He also served on their board of directors for ten years.

He was a man of strong faith and was thankful to God for everything that he had. He spent much of his time hunting, walleye fishing, and enjoying nature. This love was passed on to his son and grandchildren, particularly his oldest grandson. He also loved teaching in any way he could and believed there was a lesson in everything. Most recently, he was excited for his youngest granddaughter who is currently thriving in college in Arizona.

One of his greatest sources of pride was having three generations of doctors in his family, to include his son Dr. Todd Schroeder, his granddaughter-in-law Dr. Sarah Schroeder, and his granddaughter, Dr. Callie Schroeder.

Buzz was deeply appreciative of the skilled and compassionate care provided by his daughter Kris during this challenging illness.

He was a member at Branch River Country Club, where he played as much golf as he had time for. He and Judy were also active in fundraising for the original YMCA. Buzz served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church, where he continuously built on his faith. He also spent seven years as a Captain and Commanding Officer of a small medical unit in Manitowoc during the Vietnam war. Once retired, he volunteered his services at the Salvation Army Clinic.

His values will be carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Judith, his son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Todd and Dawn Schroeder, a daughter Kristin Schroeder, and his adored grandchildren: Tyler and Sarah Schroeder, Callie Schroeder (significant other Mitchell White), Nicholas Schroeder, and Shea Lee Evin Gray. His sister: Marilyn LeMoine and his brother and sister-in-law: James and Jan Schroeder, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dogs Luna and Sophie.

Buzz was preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Marvelene Schroeder, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Otto and Cleo Kotthaus, a sister and two brothers-in-law: Janet and Jim Edwards and Herb LeMoine.

Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Faith Church, 2201 South 42nd Street, Manitowoc.
