Benjamin was the son of Joseph and Deidamia Hill Mendenhall. He helped organize and lay out Liberty Township, Wells Co, Indiana. He was a fine man and excellent hunter. He donated the land for the first cemetery in Liberty Townwhip and it was called the Mendenhall Cemetery until the McFarren family bought the farm on which it was located and the name of the cemetery became McFarren Cemetery.
