Margaret "Marge" Wein
September 4, 1922 - September 28, 2019

Margaret "Marge" Wein, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed after a rich and full filling life. She recently celebrated her 98th Birthday with her beloved family by her side.

An activist and positive influence to all who knew her, she fully believed that we should all strive to leave the world better than we found it. She firmly believed that even one person can make a difference.

Marge was a strong woman who had a successful radio career as an account executive in New York City, worked on Prison Reform with Eleanor Roosevelt, and with her husband Ed Wein, ran Jimmy Carter’s first political campaigns. While she was an Account Executive in New York City Radio, Marge was responsible for an idea for a television program in the mid 1950’s that eventually became “American Bandstand”. She also won a media award in New York City in the mid 1950’s for outstanding radio sales, a huge honor for being one of the first women to follow that career path.

She was instrumental in the restoration of The Springer Opera House in Columbus, Georgia, as well as producing and directing great shows to include “The King And I” and “South Pacific”. After moving to Dothan, Alabama, she was involved with founding The Southeast Alabama Community Theatre, and produced and directed several shows in the theatre in which she also had a hand in renovating.

Coming to Pensacola, Marge never “stopped reaching”, as she would say. She was President of Temple Beth El Sisterhood, the Executive Director of The Pensacola Jewish Federation and was on the national board of Temple Sisterhood.

She always lived up to her ideals and set the bar high as an example to the rest of us.

Equally passionate about her family, Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Wein and son Michael Wein (Debbi Wein). She is survived by her son, Steve Wein, daughter, Barbara Allen (Earl Allen), her grandchildren; Shira Rose, Bill Wein (Dawn Wein), Denise Incao (Sylvan Incao), Wendy Allen, Robert Karesh, Carla Stiles (Joe Stiles), Jason Wein (Geoff Hall), Stephanie Raymon (Bill Raymon), David Allen, Jessica Wein, Sarah Wein, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, all who will miss her presence and positive influence in their lives.

In leu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the ACLU or The Pensacola Jewish Federation.

Her celebration of life will be held at Temple Beth El Pensacola on Wednesday, October 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Following there will be a 3:00pm graveside service at Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, AL.
