Virginia Franklin Edwards, age 87, passed away with her loving family by her side on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Oktibbeha County Hospital Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Monday, October 7, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 8 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Dempsey. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Virginia was born October 30, 1931, one of 14 children born to Barney Whitfield “Mr. Whitt” and Ester Pope Franklin in the Mt. Pisgah Community of Weir, Mississippi. She attended West End Baptist Church. For the most part, Virginia was a homemaker but she also worked at various times at Spartus Corporation and TRW where she made many friends. She enjoyed attending gospel singings with her friends and listening to music. She was very talented and crocheted many bedspreads, tablecloths, dishrags, and afghans for her family. Virginia enjoyed life and was always so happy spreading her love and cheer to everyone she met.

Virginia is survived by two daughters: Tracey Edwards Coleman and husband, Wesley of Louisville; and Jennifer Edwards Yancy and husband, Jimmy of Taylor, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Mamaw” to her four grandchildren: Megan Reneá Edwards, Kaitlyn Dachelle Edwards, Laura Leigh Verry, and Whitt Chandler Yancy. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Edwards; her grandson, Robert Carlton Yancy; her parents; four brothers: James, Charles, Homer, and Tommy; and her sisters, Minnie, Ida Mae, Bessie, Aaron, Frances, Estelle, Willie and Lucille.
