Elias Sunstein, a prominent local attorney who was active in community social affairs for many years, died yesterday November 30th, at his home, 5506 Aylesboro Avenue, Squirrel Hill.
Mr. Sunstein, 88, was in private law practice and maintained an investment counceling office in the Benedum Trees Bldg., Downtown.
He was a co-founder and charter member of the Pittsburgh Child Guidance Center and was a member of the center's board of directors. He was one of the founders of the Community Schools, now the Falk School, and was active in Family Welfare of Allegheny County, now Family and Children's Services.
Mr. Sunstein was a graduate of Kiskiminetas Preparatory School and was an honor graduate of Princeton University in 1906. He was also a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh law school.
At Princeton he was captain of the tennis team which won the intercollegiate doubles championship in 1906.
Mr. Sunstein was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Kingsbacher Sunstein; two sons Cass Richard and David Elias Sunstein; two daughters, Mrs. Theodore W. Kheel and Mrs. James Stone Balter, 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sunstein residence. Services at the home tomorrow will be private.
