James Franklin Craig, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2019 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on March 24, 1928 to parents William Calvin Craig and Willie Eulalia Bean in Glenray in West Virginia.
James enlisted in the United States Navy in 1946 and married Margaret Jane Craig (the love of his life) on December 26, 1950 in Lumber City, GA. He retired from the Navy on September 1966 and soon followed a career in the fast food and trucking industry. James began his career with the Duval County School Board in 1973 and retired in 1993. In his spare time James collected coins, clocks, was an avid railroad enthusiast, enjoyed reading Louie L’Amour books and taking photos of family, especially the grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren and would show pictures to anyone who would look. James will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is proceeded in death by parents, William and Willie Craig; siblings, Charles, William, Katherine, Margaret, Mary and Rebecca and son, Bruce Craig.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jane Craig; children, Franklin Craig of Decatur, GA; Martha Bramhall (Paul) of Homer, NY and William Craig (Elizabeth) of West Jordan, UT; grandchildren, Jessica Austin (Kyle) of Norfolk, VA, Sarah Craig of West Jordan, UT, Jason Bramhall (Marita) of Owego, NY and Allison Craig of Jacksonville, FL and great-grandchildren, Luther Austin and Carolyn Austin of Norfolk, VA
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 11, 2019 at 10 am in the Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Robinett officiating. Full military honors will be rendered. A private inurnment is scheduled later that day at Riverside Cemetery in Lumber City, Georgia.
