Veteran OF World War I dies at 83
A former employee of the town of Clinton,Leonard Mayes ,83,Old Dutch Valley Rd. Route 2 ,Dies at Oak Ridge Hospital last Thursday of a stroke. He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of World War I. Orginaaly from the Hancock area,he enjoyed fishing,after he established his home here. Survivors include his wife ,Lillie Carpenter Mayes;a son,Milton E. Mayes of Clinton Rt.2;six grandchildren,James and Ronnie ,Jeanette,Linda ,,Anna Ruth , Susan ,all of Clinton;and seven great- grandchildren.His grandson Jerald and infant granddaughter preceded him in death Funeral services were Saturday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clinton with the Rev. Bill Lamb officating.Burial was in the Clinch River Baptist Church Cemetery.
