Age 80 of Monticello, passed away on November 20, 2019.Cox, one of 11 players on the rosters of all four Vikings' Super Bowl teams, died at age 80. Bud Grant called him the 'ultimate team player' for all of the things he did beyond kicking. Professional Football Player. Nicknamed Freddie the Foot, Fred William Cox was the Minnesota Vikings all-time leader in scoring with 1,365 points and 282 field goals. Cox is one of eleven Vikings players to play in all four of their Super Bowl appearances in the 1970's. Cox led the NFL in scoring in 1969 with 121 points and in 1970 with 91 points and was named first team All-Pro both years. In 1970, he was the NFC kicker in the Pro Bowl game. Cox was also the co-inventor of the Nerf football. Following his retirement, Cox became a licensed chiropractor. He died from kidney failure.
