A memorial service was held in Lithia Park in Ashland, Oregon, with a bench and tree dedication.
Mrs. Freeman was born April 17, 1927, in Sharon, Tennessee, the daughter of Alpheus and Nellie Adams. She was the sister of Maybelle, Woodrow, Villa, Bobby Lou, Edna, James Riley, Nellie Jo and Alpheus Gene Adams.
She attended Sharon High School and married Thomas Wade Freeman in 1946. They moved to Chicago, Illinois, where during the l950s and l960s, she owned and operated a restaurant. In 1967, the family relocated to Walnut Creek, California, where she managed one of the first weight loss spas in the region.
In 1971, after her divorce, she relocated with her daughter Nellie to Studio City, California. During the next six years, she and her sister and niece owned and operated a number of retail businesses in Studio City. Later, she worked for Sears and became one of their top sales persons in the region.
In 1987 she retired from Sears and relocated to Martin to reconnect with family and friends. In 2002 she moved to Ashland, Oregon, near her daughter Regina's home.
Survivors include her daughters and granddaughters, Regina Ayars of Ashland, Oregon, Megan Ayars of Veneta, Oregon, and Nellie Ruben and Mary Ruben, both of North Hollywood, California; her sisters, Edna Crews of Ventura, California, and Nellie Jo Brooks of Springfield; and her niece, Donna Crews of Ventura, California.
