Cedar Hill - Nellie Adams Brooks, age 89, died Sunday March 29, 2020 at Springfield Heights in Springfield, TN. A private graveside service will be held Tuesday March 31st in Bellwood Cemetery with Dr. Eric Taylor officiating. Joe Finley, Robert Bibb, Jacob Bibb, Casey Weaver, Josh Jackson, Mac Baggett, Joey Evans and Tim van der Hengst will serve as pallbearers.
She was born September 1, 1930 in Sharon, TN to the late Alpheus Vince and Nellie Riley Adams. In addition to her parents, was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Crawford Brooks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Woodrow Wilson and Mildred Adams, James Riley and Dorothy Adams, Alpheus Gene Adams; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maybell and Everett Bell, Villa and Paul Hamm, Rowena and Tommy Freeman, Edna and Kenneth Crews and Bobbie Lou and Worth Hodges.
Mrs. Brooks was a long-time member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church where she served as WMU Director and where she will always be remembered for her fried chicken and chicken salad. Even in her eighties she supported missions, going on a Haiti mission trip and four Tennessee Glorifier missions. She was a homemaker first and foremost who loved gardening, canning and freezing. But in addition to that she worked alongside her husband Billy on their Dairy Farm, sold ads for the Robertson County Fair and the Springfield Herald. She was one of the first Welcome Wagon volunteers and a Blood Mobile volunteer. She retired after working as manager of Rena's Shoes for 23 years. She enjoyed golfing in her spare time. Nell was a beautiful lady inside and out. Her daughters stated that they never heard her say an unkind word about anyone.
Surviving Mrs. Brooks are her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Frank Finley of Cedar Hill, TN, Bonnie and John Johnston of Springfield and Kim and Bob Bibb of Springfield; grandchildren, Kara Finley (Tommy Durham), Joe (Lindsay) Finley, Jenny (Joey) Evans, Robert (Danielle) Bibb, Beth Baggett (Mac) Baggett, Ann (Casey) Weaver, Marinelle (Josh) Jackson, Maria (Tim) van der Hengst and Jacob Bibb (Jessica Traughber); twenty-one great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert H. Brooks (Peggy) and loving nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to give a special thank you and much appreciation for the extreme love and care shown for Nellie by her many faithful sitters, and the staff at Springfield Heights and Morningside.
