As the dawn was breaking on a new day Saturday morning, December 7, 2019 Mrs. Ruby Nelle Brinson Roberts, formerly of Clearwater, Florida passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Soperton, Georgia. Mrs. Roberts had made this earth her home for 96 years.
Born in Tarrytown, she was one of five children born to the late Chester and Mattie Moxley Brinson. Shortly after graduating from Soperton High School she moved to Macon for employment where she met her future husband, Gerald Nelson Roberts, who was stationed in Macon while serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They married on Valentine’s Day and made their first home in Macon. They welcomed their first child, their daughter, into the world in 1947. Within a short few years, the Roberts family moved to Clearwater, Florida where her husband worked with the United States Postal Service and Mrs. Roberts immersed herself into working and serving others through her church as Church Hostess. In 1957, a second child, their son was born. Mrs. Roberts ran their household, raised their two children and worked for approximately forty years at Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, coordinating church fellowships, Wednesday night suppers and special catered events.
She enjoyed cooking and serving the needs of others in addition to creating and designing floral arrangements and decorating.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1986 and her son, Larry Roberts who passed away in 2013.
Mrs. Roberts leaves behind, her daughter, Beverly Sue Roberts, Soperton, GA, a brother, Donald Brinson (Perla), Milledgeville, GA, her daughter in law, Janet Roberts Bradley, two grandchildren, Jennifer Welkner and Heather Whaley, several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from the graveside in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, Florida as Mrs. Roberts is laid to rest beside her husband.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton, Georgia.
