Mary Ann was the daughter of Richard and Catherine (Teel) Morris who are also buried in the Martinsville City Cemetery. She met her first husband and the father of her children, Thomas Alexander, in Owen County, Indiana. They moved to Coles County, Illinois in about 1831. Her parents also moved to Coles County. In 1838, shortly afte the birth of her last child, Catherine T., she moved with Thomas to Edgar County, Illinois where Thomas had obtained a patent for 40 acres of land.. He died in November of the same year and is buried there in Elledge-Holley cemetery in Symmes Twp.. Later, she remarried supposedly to Robert Washington who is also buried near her parents in the Martinsville City Cemetery.
