Again the children of John Gross and Anna Mary Gross were called upon to perform the sad duty to bear their father to his last resting place, being only preceded ten days by his beloved and dear wife, leaving the children: Mrs. Paul Peiffer, Harper, Ia., Mrs. George Rudolph, Pocahontas, Iowa; Joseph Gross, Clay County, Ia.; Henry Gross, Harper, Ia.; Nick Gross, Sigourney, Ia.; Mrs. Taylor Vaness, Ollie, Ia., who were all present, to mourn their double loss of both parents in this short time. Five children preceded them in death.

John Gross was born May 15, 1830, near Ruin, Germany, and died February 3, 1916, at 4:10 p.m. in German township. He came to America in 1855, was married in 1856 to Anna Kohlhaus and lived on a farm south of Harper the rest of his life. He suffered patiently until his end.

Funeral services took place at Harper Catholic church of which he was a member all his life. A solemn high mass by Rev. Leutdpe and Rev. Peiffer and Rev. Sendbuehler officiating. Burial at the Harper Cemetery, well attended by his many relatives and friends.

Henry Gross, born Aug. 13, 1871, died Jan. 31, 1936. buried St. Peter and Paul Cem. Preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Brown and a son Peter. Survived by a brother, Nick and 2 sisters, Mrs. Paul Peiffer and Mrs. George Rudolph. His wife, Margaret (Rudolph) Gross was born Apr. 18, 1877 and died Oct. 8, 1919. His daughter Pearl Pauline Gross, born Dec. 3, 1900, died Sepi. 8, 1929, married Glen Brown Dec. 4, 1924. His son Peter Gross, born Nov. 19, 1895, died Apr. 10, 1921.
