Josiah P. LeFevre, vice-president of the New Paltz Savings Bank, died at his home on Mohonk Avenue, New Paltz, Friday night, February 25, of pneumonia. He was born in Forest Glen in December, 1864, the son of Josiah P. and Mary DuBois LeFevre.
After studying at Cornell University he engaged in farming at Forest Glen until twenty-eight years ago when he moved to New Paltz. Besides acting as vice-president of the New Paltz Savings Bank, he was for many years secretary of the New Paltz Huguenot Memorial Society, and was a member of the Huguenot Grange. Quiet and unassuming, he was a man of sterling worth and sound judgement, and was held in the highest esteem by the whole community.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna B. Church LeFevre; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Denniston of New Hurley and Mrs. Raymond Jenkins of Salisbury, N.C., three grandchildren, Susanna and LeRoy Denniston of New Hurley and Margaret Jenkins of Salisbury, N.C.; and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude LeFevre of Weedsport. The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon, the Rev. Gerrett J. Wullschleger officiating. Burial was in the Modena cemetery.
