Margie Kelley Deckard
Funeral services for Margie Kelley Deckard were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May
13, 2002 at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with Rev. Robert Cooper, Rev.
Mark McDonald and Rev. Deacon Diane Moore officiating. Interment was at Double
Church's Cemetery in Couley, Louisiana.

Mrs. Deckard, age 58 of New Iberia, died Thursday, May 9, 2002 at Our Lady of
Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Winnfield. Mrs. Deckard obtained a degree in Elementary
Education from Northwestern University in 1964. She taught at Forest Hill
Elementary in Shreveport where she received Teacher of the Year. She also
taught in Houston before moving with her family to Aberdeen, Scotland. She was
very involved in different civic organizations and served as Vice President
and Treasurer of the Women's Petroleum Club and was honored for such by
personal invitation to the Queen's Garden Party. She and her family later
moved to the Netherlands, Houston and then settled in New Iberia.

Mrs. Deckard earned Special Education Certification from USL, then taught in
New Iberia at Avery Island, Johnston Elementary, and North Street Elementary.
Both at Johnston and North Street, she was chosen by her peers as Teacher of
the Year. Mrs. Deckard was a volunteer for Special Olympics for many years.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Alice Martin Kelley.

Survivors include her husband, Max L. Deckard of New Iberia; 2 sons, Stuart
Christopher Deckard and his wife Amanda Castille Deckard of New Iberia and
Iain Edward Deckard and his wife, Bernadette Leigh Deckard of Lafayette; one
brother, Donald Kelley of Winnfield; 2 sisters, Nora Kelley Graner of Dallas,
Texas and Betty Kelley Watts of Winnfield; 4 grandchildren, Carolyn Nicole
Bourgue, Brandi Bourgue, Kimberly Bourgue and Jesse Deckard; great-
granddaughter, Madison Myers; mother-in-law, Maxine Lester Deckard of New
Iberia.

Pallbearers were Bryan Kelley, Jamie Danzler, Matthew Kelley, Rick Robertson,
Steve Iverstine, and Jesse Deckard.

Honorary Pallbearers were Amy Danzler, Laura Robertson, Mary Iverstine, Steve
Giltner and Rebecca Giltner.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P0 Box 218, Loreauville,
LA 70552.
