Benjamin B. Hursh was born at Branchville, Sussex County, New Jersey son of Benjamin Depue and Anna (Shay) Hursh. He died at Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada.

He "was struck by a train (the West Bound Flyer) three miles east of town at about 4:40. The injured was taken on the train to Macoun. Dr. Mitchell examined him and sent him on the same train to Weyburn Hospital but he passed away without having gained consciousness."

Benjamin moved from Hainesville, New Jersey to Marengo, Iowa in 1903 Before moving to Iowa he sold the old homestead of the Depues which his father prized so highly to Martin V. Cole and a stranger then owned the place which had been in the family for about 200 years.
In 1906 he moved to Macoun, Saskatchewan, Canada and homesteaded in wheatgrowing country.

His first wife, Sarah Ellen (Everitt) Hursh died in 1891 in New Jersey. He married second April 25, 1899 to Jennie Major 1870-1947 daughter of Samuel Major and Lydia Bell.
They had two children:
Josephine Major Hursh born January 27, 1900 at Hainesville.
Benjamin B. Hursh III born February 15, 1904 at Marengo, Iowa.
