He had seven siblings: William Erastus Smith, James Monroe Smith, John Wooten Smith, Andrew W. Smith, Absalom Alonzo "Abb" Smith, Minnie E. Smith and Sarah M. M. "Mattie" Smith.
His paternal grandparents were Absalom Smith and Elizabeth Catherine Foster and his maternal grandparents were Aaron Cantrell and Temperance Brand Davis.
He married unknown first wife. They had two children: Irvin Andrew Smith and Edgar Smith.
He married second wife, Maud Cunningham on July 20, 1904 in Houston County, Texas. They had six children: Earl Smith, Louis A. Smith, Thelma Ruth Smith, Clifton Smith, Madra Lou Smith and Elvira Smith.
He died on December 23, 1943 in Houston County, Texas. He was 70 years old.
