Lorna Freida Wassom, daughter of George and Caroline Aufderheide was born Dec. 2, 1918 at Carleton and died June 7 at Hebron at the age of 73.

She received her education at the Parochial School west of Deshler and Gilead public District #18, was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church at Gilead on July 24, 1932 by Rev. H.C. Marting, baptized at Freidensau on Dec. 8, 1918 by Pastor Schabacher.

She was united in marriage to James Arthur Wassom on Jan. 15, 1941 at Gladstone Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. H.C. Marting and to this union four sons were born.

She lived in Thayer County all her life and was engaged in farming with her husband, James.

She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, and was also a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aide, Chester Extension Club and Chester Woman's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Jerry and two brothers, Oscar and Arnold.

She is survived by her husband, James Wassom of Chester; three sons, Vernon Wassom and wife Sharon of Alexander, Donald Wassom and wife Karol of Chester and Robert Wassom and wife Carla of Hubbell; a brother, Elmer Aufderheide of Filer, Idaho; sisters, Ida Bodtke of Fairbury, Berdean Walker of Fallon, Nev. and Mabel Arnold of Deshler; six grandchildren, Marian Baumfalk, James Wassom, Kathy Wassom, Matthew Wassom, Kari Wassom and Andrew Wassom; one great-grandchild and nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 11 at 2 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, conducted by Pastor William Larsen.

Interment was made in St. John Lutheran Church of Chester.
