Mrs. Alice Burks, prominent and respected woman of the Ulman community, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy McDonald, near Ulman, Tuesday evening, Aug. 5, at about 6:00 o'clock, from an illness from which she had suffered for the past ten months. She was seventy-four ears of age.

Mrs. Burks was the daughter of John and Elandor Barr and was born near Iberia May 4, 1867, being at the time of her death, 74 years, 3 months and 1 day of age.

On March 11, 1900 she was married to Jesse W. Burks of Ulman, who preceded her in death nine years ago. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Roy (Tracy) McDonald of Ulman and Mrs. Leslie (Dorothy) Burris of Kansas City, both of whom survive. She also leaves four step-children, Walter M. Burks of Ulman, Mrs. W.C. Nixdorf of Ulman, Mrs. C.M. Bass of Kansas City and Mrs. C.B. Bass of Ulman. One grandchild and 12 step-grandchildren, one brother, E.A. Barr of Iberia, and a host of other relatives and friends also are left to mourn her death.

Mrs. Burks joined the Christian Church at Ulman early in life and continued in that faith until the end. A good woman, mother and grandmother, loved by al who knew her, she will be missed in the community and home.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at the Ulman Christian Church by Rev. R.N. Towry, her pastor, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Hickory Point Cemetery with Adams & Casey Funeral Home of Iberia in charge.
