Maria Papadopoulos, 80, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday October 12, 2006 after a sudden illness at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Venice, Italy March 18, 1926 the daughter of Anastasios and Augusta Koutsourelos. She was educated in Venice and received her teaching certificate at the Byzantine Institute in Venice.

She left Venice, Italy and came to Dover in 1947 to marry her husband, George, whom she met while he was serving in the United States Army in Italy during WWII.

Mrs. Papadopoulos was a parishioner of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation where she was a member of Alkistis and the Daughters of Penelope.

Members of her family include her husband of 58 years, George Papadopoulos of Dover; a son, Peter Papadopoulos and his wife, Ann Metcalf of Plymouth; a daughter, Betsy Kostis and her husband, Dennis of Dover; three grandsons, John Kostis, George Kostis and Nicholas Kostis all of Dover; one nephew, Peter Pappas of Dover; and her brother-in-law, Ugo Tonello of Venice, Italy.

She was predeceased by her sister, Antonia Tonello of Venice, Italy.

She will be greatly and sadly missed by her family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover, where Rev. Constantine Newman will conduct the Trisagion Service at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Locust St., with Rev. Constantine Newman, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Annunciation Cemetery.
