A.L. Watson, age 85, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.

Born September 1, 1934 in Caldwell County, A.L. was a son of the late Noah Sidney and Carolyn Elizabeth Gray Watson.

A.L. was the owner and operator of Watson Woodworking for over 55 years. Working in his shop was his passion. He was a veteran of the US Army and was stationed in Germany during his time of service. During his younger years, A.L. was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church and later joined West Lenoir Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mavis Crisp Watson; a sister, Margie Watson Coffey; four brothers, Robert Sidney Watson, John Lewis Watson, Ray Pitts Watson and Terrell Eugene Watson.

Survivors include his daughter, Renae Bumgarner (husband Ken) of West Jefferson; two granddaughters, Michelle Rollins (husband Nathan) of Lenoir and Sara Smith (husband Chase) of Clemmons; a great grandson, Bryson Creech; two great granddaughters, Bailey Creech and Penelope Ruth Smith; he is also survived by numerous other relatives.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 3:30 PM at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Pastor Raymond Spann officiating.

The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service.
