Haji Garabed Agha Achikbashian had two sons Arakel and Sarkis with his first wife Vartouhi Gureghian. Arakel made the pilgrimage to Jerusalem and so was known as Haji Arakel. His wife was Haji Hanum Injirian. They had children Azniv, Arousiag, Makrouhi, and Mihran. Arakel was said to have been beheaded in front of his wife during the Hamidian Massacres in either 1895 or 1896- a family account gives the year as 1896 but it was most likely during the massacre which occurred in Arapkir in November 1895 (late October in the Julian calendar they used then). Their son Mihran served as a government official who was assassinated during the Armenian Genocide of 1915, around the same time that Arakel's brother Aram the famous revolutionary was executed by hanging.
