George Oliver Powell, 70, Silver Springs, Md, grocer, former Atlantan, died Thursday night in Silver Springs after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday in Spring Hill Chapel. Dr P D Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.
A native of Lawrenceville, Mr Powell was associated with the Atlanta Tent & Awning Co, East Point, for many years prior to leaving Atlanta in 1945. He had operated a grocery store in Silver Springs up until the time of his death. He was a member of Druid Hills Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Edwin M (Laura Powell) Becker, Bethesda, Md; three sisters, Mrs O R Juan, Mrs H Carson Smith, Mrs Irene Pierce; a brother, Chalmers Powell, all of Lawrenceville; and another brother, Riley Powell, Atlanta.
