He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 25 years of service and also retired from the CSX Railroad after 12 years of service. He was a member of Central Church of Christ. He was a member of the Savannah Bowling Association and is in the Bowling Hall of Fame for bowling a perfect game. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Adams; sister, Lois Adams; brother, James C. Adams, Jr.; and grandson, James Adam Burnsed. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Hurst Adams of Savannah; his daughters, Marce A. Burnsed and husband Linn of Savannah, Kathy A. King and husband Mike of Savannah; his son, James H. Adams of Springfield; his brother, Stanley D. Adams of Kermit, TX; aunt, Mrs. Jean Gilcrease of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Brandon and Christopher Burnsed and Adam, William and Ashleigh King.
