1914 -- Meuwissen, Louis Married Gusta Schneider Waconia Patriot Feb 13, 1914
Married Here Early Tuesday Morning
Young Cologne Businessman Takes Bride
A quiet wedding took place in the early morning of Tuesday at the St. Joseph church, when Rev. John Stelmes united as husband and wife, Miss Gusta Schneider and Louis Meuwissen, both of Cologne.
Mass as read at six o'clock, after which the nuptial knot was tied. The witnesses were Joseph Schneider, brother of the bride, and Miss Annie Weibel. Only a few relatives and members of the congregation were present. After the exercises at the church the wedding party repaired to the parish house where a wedding breakfast was served by Rev. Stelmes, when the young people boarded the seven o'clock passenger for their honeymoon in various points in Iowa, returning to Cologne, where they will be at home to their friends after February 15th.
The bride is the accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schneider, prominent residents of Cologne, while the groom is a son of Mrs. Henry Meuwissen, for many years a resident of our sister village, Cologne. He is considered one of the substantial and coming young businessmen of Cologne, who will make his mark as a worthy son of honorable parents.
The congratulations on the happy event are numerous and the Patriot is greatly pleased on this occasion to add its hearty good wishes to those being so freely extended.

Louis Meuwissen dies suddenly
Well known Auctioneer and local police chief expired Sunday morning at 2:10 after a few days illness.
Like a thunderclap from a clear sky came the news Sunday morning that Louis Meuwissen had passed away. His death came at 2:10 Sunday morning Sept. 24, 1922, after a few days illness. Few knew that he had been ill and none believed for a moment that his illness was serious or that his end was near. While a comparatively young man he had been prominent here for many years and enjoyed a wide acquaintance.
Louis Meuwissen was the son of the late Henry Meuwissen, pioneer settler of this section of Carver county and during his lifetime one of the County's leading citizens. He was born here 37 years ago last February and attended the local schools and grew to manhood in the old home community. On Feb. 10th, 1914 he was married to Miss Augusta Schneider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Schneider, well known residents of the community. Two daughters were born to them, Claudia and Marcella. These, with their mother and their grandmother, and a number of brothers and sisters, mourn the sudden passing of the husband and father, son and brother. Our heart goes out to them all in their sad bereavement.
The late Louis Meuwissen was a young man of more than the usual ability. He engaged in various business enterprises here and is best remembered for his activities as a land man and auctioneer. Two years ago he was candidate for County Commissioner in this district. He was successful in the primary but was defeated in the general election after a hard fight. Only recently he again entered the field of auctioneer and was reported as doing well. For some time also he has acted as policeman at Cologne. Louis was a young man of big heart and pleasing personality and made friends readily. His early demise causes much sorrow among a wide circle of acquaintances. He had a promising career and it is much to be regretted that his earthly career had to be cut short so early in life. May God grant his soul eternal rest.
The funeral services took place at 11:30 A.M. Monday, Sept. 24th and were largely attended. Interment was in the Cologne cemetery.
Some of those from a distance who attended the funeral were: F.W. Radde, Ed. Radde, W. J. Kuntz, Joseph Fuchs, Lawrence Henke, Mr. Huckenpoehler, Eugene Mock, Julius Manteuffel, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Knott, Waconia; Mrs. John Edblom, Carver.
The pall bearers were: John Meuwissen, Herbert Meuwissen, Hubert Meuwissen Fred. Meuwissen, Alois Meuwissen, Alex Meuwissen.
